The Mess Records & Drifter Music Group present

a 30-song compilation album, featuring 25 local bands and musicians, characterized by, and created during, the federal occupation of Minnesota. By the community, for the community, Thaw is a raw and genuine look into our experiences, a way to give back to our communities, share in our feelings, and be grounded in our resolve.

Thaw exists to have the experiences of the marginalized and terrorized heard, and the feelings of hopelessness and power shared.

Independently, The Mess Records and Drifter Music Group felt called to open their studios to musicians who were creating songs characterized by the experiences being had as a result of the federal occupation in Minnesota. The offer was simple: free tracking, mixing and mastering to any and all local artists creating anti-ice and protest songs. In the spirit of community, The Mess and Drifter decided to release the songs produced in their respective spaces together as a compilation album. In a time filled with grief, confusion, strength and togetherness, the music that shares in that experience aims to provide comfort, company and inspiration not only to those on the ground in Minnesota, but to those on the outside looking in, too.
